Happy New Year folks! 2011 is coming to a close and there is no shortage of places to welcome in the New Year around London, Ontario. If you want family friendly, we’ve got it. If live music is more your style, you have options. Have a hankering to see some horse races – you can do that too! Maybe a house party is more your style. Of course, I know that there will be a few people who just can’t make it to midnight and will wake to a new day like any other. However you celebrate it, I wish you well and will see you all in 2012!

Midnight is a little late for the younger set, but celebrating the New Year can still be fun at Storybook Gardens. Get on your skates and go enjoy their skate trail. Cozy up beside their campfire. Or just enjoy the family fun atmosphere and food. New Year’s celebrations start at 6pm and run until 9pm, with the countdown commencing at 8:30pm. Registration is required, so to avoid disappointment call today and let the whole family celebrate together and still make it to bed at a reasonable hour.

Perhaps you are looking for something a little more adult in nature though. Well then, why not head over to the Western Fair District! Pick a venue and celebrate New Year’s Eve your way. There is the Big Bash 2012 for $28, which features Thunderstruck (AC/DC Tribute band), Second Chance (Rock and Country Party Band), and Cherry Dogs (Classic & New Rock Kings). Plus a Video Dance Party! The doors open at 9pm and will keep on rocking til 2012!

If your musical tastes run a little older than that, check out the Dinner and Dance at the Carousel Room. They will have a 60’s & 70’s Rock Theme with DJ and dancing. Enjoy a delicious Prime Rib Buffet, take in live horse racing at 7:05pm, then toast the New Year with party favours and a glass of champagne at midnight. Tickets are $49.95. Doors open at 6:30pm, dinner will be served from 7pm-9pm and you can dance the night away from 9pm-1am. It is sure to be a blast!

If you are looking for a little fun, but can’t afford tickets to gala parties then head down to Victoria Park for their annual Rockin’ New Year’s Eve Party. This year Ed Holder will be hosting and there is fun planned for the whole family. The kids will spy Cinderella and Belle, plus be treated to Genevieve Fisher’s catchy kid-friendly covers. You will be able to find hot chocolate and balloons, plus at 9pm there will be a special kid’s fire works display. Once the little ones depart, things will get a little more rocking with special guests U-Turn and headliner Glass Tiger! If you are worried about missing out on the fireworks, don’t as at the stroke of midnight the adults will have their very own fireworks display as well. It is sure to be a crowd-pleasing affair once again.

Personally, I am not sure what I will get up to yet this year. I should be able to make it to midnight, but it could be in the comfort of my very own home with my wife and kids by my side. And if that’s what you are doing, well that is perfectly alright too. Whatever you get up to, I wish you a very Happy New Year and can’t wait to see what 2012 brings!
