Attention London homeowners! This is a weekend that you won’t want to miss out on! The annual London Spring Home & Garden show starts tomorrow, Friday April 20th and runs all weekend long. Hard to believe it has been 36 years, but the Western Fair District is thrilled to be hosting the largest home show in Southwestern Ontario yet again. The event is far more than just a simple home show though. There will be over 320 professional exhibitors, demonstration stages, celebrity guests, the Green Thumb Marketplace, a flower show and so much more. In fact, the show spans the Progress Building, Progress East building, West Annex, Canada Building, the Special Events Building, and the link between the last two, plus there will be an outdoor exhibit area as well! If you have any thought about any kind of home  improvements, renovations, upgrades, redecorating or more, you have to attend this show. The hours are;

Friday April 20, 2012: 12pm – 9pm
Saturday, April 21, 2012: 10am – 8pm
Sunday, April 22, 2012: 11am – 5pm

So what kind of project do you have planned for your home this year? Are you going big for that dream kitchen you have always wanted? Can you not afford to ignore the state of your roof any more? Have you begged your furnace to last for one last season? Perhaps you just need some beautifying outdoors, like with a new gazebo, barbeque or a full overhaul to your gardens. The show covers all that and more! You might even be one of the lucky winners of a handful of fabulous prizes just for sowing up. Wouldn’t that be sweet to walk out with a barbeque, new spa, an interior colour makeover or an outdoor living package? I’d say so (hmm, maybe you shouldn’t go actually, as that would increase my chances of winning – kidding!)

Not only can you walk out with contractors numbers or DIY ideas, but you can even collect recipes from Porky’s Grilling School or celebrity guest, Emily Richards. I think they are pretty smart to feature cooking demos while you are dreaming of that hot backsplash behind your new range stove. Of course smelling delicious barbequed tidbits gets you in mind of summers spent on your new deck as well. I know I could go for a new cold beverage right about now perhaps in a bubbly hot tub. Did I mention that even if these things are not a reality at your house, they could be with the help of some of the vendors from the show?

Make sure that you stop to smell the flowers as you walk through the show too. The London Horticultural Society will be featuring its annual flower competition and display with cut flowers and arrangements. You can continue from there to the Gardening Stage to receive gardening tips from Steven Biggs and Dennis Flanagan. You can also find arborists to address any tree issues you have, landscape designers and companies that sell dirt, mulch and more! All just in time for Summer weather to begin. And if you aren’t happy unless you have a bag in hand, don’t forget to stop by the marketplace, where you can walk out with seeds, garden art, birdhouses, patio furnishings and other decor items for your home. A must see area of the show.

If that isn’t enough for you, there is also the Dream Garage, for all the boys and their toys. I will be stopping by the Home Automation booths to take a peak as well. Isn’t it time you had that surround sound you have always wanted? Hey guys, maybe you can ditch your wife in the garden centre while you drool over flat screens? You know I am going to get flack for that one from my wife! Oops. Before I dig myself in too much deeper, I should just let you know that if you can’t take in the show all in one day go early and get a pass to return later in the weekend for free. Maybe you could sneak back solo to finalize the deal on the backyard pool as a surprise!

Regardless of what your needs are though, you should make a point of stopping by the London Spring Home & Garden show. Every year there are new design ideas, products and vendors to see that are well worth the $10 admission charge. Perhaps I will see you there!
