Another Long Weekend is upon us Canada! All hail summertime and the fun that it brings! And what fun is going on in London, Ontario this Civic holiday weekend? Plenty! If you are bored of your backyard, get out and mingle at one of these great events this weekend. The best part about all these events is that they are all free!

London’s 26th annual Rib Festival is swinging into town for Civic holiday celebrations this weekend. Victoria Park will again play host to the finger-licking fun from August 2-6, 2012, from 11am-11pm. There will be 10 ribbers in ribber row, 2 beer gardens, carnival rides and 75 bands at 5 stages, over the 5 day festival. Plus, there will be the regular selection of craft, retail and other food vendors on hand to tempt you with as well.

Once you have your fill of ribs, why not meander a few blocks south to get your fill of art at the 7th annual Imadon Expressions in Chalk festival. From August 4-6, 2012, Talbot St will be transformed into a chalk canvas for over 25 performance artists, as they take to the road and create chalk masterpieces for you to enjoy. Competing in categories such as “Best in Show”, “People’s Choice”, “Best Student” and “Best Youth”, the judges will surely have a hard time selecting their favourites amongst the artists present. Why not join them and judge which ones are your favourites too!

If you are looking for another free event, you could always show up at the Citi Plaza on Friday August 3, 2012, for this week’s edition of their summer Rooftop Film Festival. The festivities start at 8 pm with the film starting at 9pm. Head up to the roof with your lawn chairs and a blanket to tuck around you, if the weather requires. This week’s film is “No Strings Attached” and here’s a preview. FYI, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off” is playing next Friday, so pop a little more popcorn for then!
